Development Minister: No visit by Netanyahu to Germany in the foreseeable future / Alabali Radovan: "That makes it easier" - Standing by the International Criminal Court and its decisions

Osnabrück (ots) – According to German Federal Development Minister Reem Alabali Radovan (SPD), a trip by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Germany is not expected for the time being. "As far as I know, no visit by Netanyahu is planned in the foreseeable future," Alabali Radovan said in an interview with the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung" (NOZ). In light of the international arrest warrant against Netanyahu, Alabali Radovan admitted she was relieved that no visit was pending. "That makes it easier," she said, emphasizing: "We stand by the International Criminal Court and its decisions." The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu in November on suspicion of war crimes and crimes against humanity for his actions in Gaza. CDU leader Friedrich Merz had already announced before his election as Chancellor that he would nevertheless invite Netanyahu to Germany. In May, he again suggested allowing Netanyahu to visit Germany. The Federal Development Minister declined to comment on whether she considered the ongoing Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip to be a violation of international law: "I am not an expert in international law," she told the "NOZ." However, there are certainly reasons to question the Israeli government's actions in the Gaza Strip.
